These waters run deep it's clear my little one Blue velvet star sky not a sound The light in your eyes, the smile on your ruby lips Tells me my lost soul is found [the seahorses]
First off, I really like the colours you've used; the lighter blues, greens and purples give a soft and 'happy' atmosphere, which is complimentary to both the title and the overall concept. It was also a nice suprise to have this appear in my inbox as your past few works have had a much darker colour theme to them. The colours also have a real underwater feel to them, which is appropriate given the central subjects are seahorses. Perhaps a touch more of the blue, especially in the bottom right hand corner would be a nice extra addition.
The pose of the seahorses is the second thing I really like about this; their touching tails give that sense of physical closeness, while the fact that one is shorter than the other creates a sense of protection, an emotion I think we all associate with being in love.
The black brushes that surround and come out of the seahorses give the piece an abstract feel, and also creates a musical atmosphere; it is as if the brushes represent the waves of emotion and love. I am, however, not entirely sure about the brush coming out of the left seahorse's neck, perhaps if there was a gap, or it was coming out of the tail I would prefer it.
The star and floral brushes I love for two reasons; firstly, it gives it a dreamy, fantastical quality, and the positioning of them makes them become physical representations of the emoticons. Secondly, it wouldn't be a chix0r classic without them!
All in all, a lovely emotional piece, great stuff Fi.
Seahorses have always fascinated me - I think it's the whole males-carring-the-eggs bit.
This is absolutely freaking beautiful. You made some admittedly strange-looking creates look incredibly humanly relatable, but they still look like admittedly strange-looking creatures.
