Anyone for a Group Fap?

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 26, 2008, 5:59 AM

Groups

Got any thoughts on how Groups should be on dA?

1. If you run a group, what's the purpose of your group?
2. If you're in groups, why are you in them? what purpose do they serve you?
3. What sort of features are you looking for in groups?
4. What are the top 5 things you are looking for out of the new groups project?
5. What can we do with groups that will be (in your opinion ) the BEST thing ever?
6. What can we do with groups that will be (in your opinion) the WORST thing ever?
7. Anything else to add? Have mock-ups of what you think things should look like?? what else you got for me?

Please leave your feedback here! But feel free to let me know too - I'm collecting ideas and mock ups.

I love a good FAP

Fineart print by spyroteknik

Behold the hotness of the above. We gave Martin a big FAP as part of our Birthday Celebrations, and to say he's delighted is an understatement. Check out what one of our top artists has to say about the sexalicious Fine Art Print.

"It's the first one of my own paintings that I've actually hung up in my house, the finish is matte, but wipeable, print is exactly what's seen on screen, framing, while thin, is sturdy and professional, the little touches are great too (matte black wallet, hanging set etc) I'd like 30 of these for a gallery showing, they are that good." spyroteknik

I had to mention as well. The very worst thing you could do is not make it possible for already existing groups to not be able to switch to becoming a group and not a user.

1. If you run a group, what's the purpose of your group?

The purpose of this group was initially to petition for the inclusion of a religion forum as part of the official list of forums on DA.

Since then, the purpose has changed. The group is now a very active hub for deviants of all religious backgrounds to discuss and to debate. This occurs on the group forum and also the group chatroom.

2. If you're in groups, why are you in them? what purpose do they serve you?

I tend to feel that groups are a way of connecting with people on DA with whom you share common interests/bonds.

3. What sort of features are you looking for in groups?

The forum, the chat and the journal are crucial for the operation of our group.

4. What are the top 5 things you are looking for out of the new groups project?

There are two major things I would love to see happen:

-A greater ability to moderate the activity occuring within my group.

-The ability to search for groups on the home page.

5. What can we do with groups that will be (in your opinion ) the BEST thing ever?

Same as above.

6. What can we do with groups that will be (in your opinion) the WORST thing ever?

7. Anything else to add? Have mock-ups of what you think things should look like?? what else you got for me?

Thank you. I really do appreciate the opportunity to give some input and feedback. It would be great to stay in touch about new developments regarding clubs/groups.

Thanks and all the best,

This Founder believes that most State Clubs die because they limit themselves to a specialized art form and do not consider that states are living entities. States have a past, present, and future. States are not only landscapes, skyscapes, and waterscapes, but they are people, buildings, agriculture, animals, vegetation, and living current events such as politics, fairs, concerts, sporting events, and so much more.

1. If you run a group, what's the purpose of your group?
:bulletblue: To unify all deviants from the state of Arizona, feature their art of Arizona, and form a community that can have face-to-face meetings.

2. If you're in groups, why are you in them? what purpose do they serve you?
:bulletblue: Unification of similiar interests.

3. What sort of features are you looking for in groups?
:bulletblue: [link] A common, enforecible, well defined set of posting regulations.
:bulletblue: The ability to close threads on internal group forums.
:bulletblue: An easier system for posting deviations from group members.

4. What are the top 5 things you are looking for out of the new groups project?
:bulletblue: Either a universal club directory, or the ability to "enter" and search for clubs of similiar distinction.

5. What can we do with groups that will be (in your opinion ) the BEST thing ever?

6. What can we do with groups that will be (in your opinion) the WORST thing ever?
:bulletblue: I am not very fond of the new V6 system when I have to go through dozens of journals or replies. It is far more labour intensive, and clumsy to use.

7. Anything else to add? Have mock-ups of what you think things should look like?? what else you got for me?

All I can think of, is that a group should be a public account, allowing all members to submit to it's gallery without having to log in, or note an admin. In a similar vein, they should be able to submit news through the group account in the same way.
However, there does need to be some way to vet the entries, to stop abuse.

1. If you run a group, what's the purpose of your group? To teach people about Wicca, and to let people expore different religions.
2. If you're in groups, why are you in them? what purpose do they serve you? I'm in them because they reflect my interests. Mainly, though: Wicca/Paganism/Magick, Yaoi/Yuri, Furuba, Anime/Manga.

1. If you run a group, what's the purpose of your group? I'm admin of ~PoetryPleaseWorkshop which is a Lit group focused on writing poetry critiques.

2. If you're in groups, why are you in them? what purpose do they serve you? - I get to meet other deviants who share the desire to write and get help writing.

3. What sort of features are you looking for in groups? - Lit thumbs! It would also be nice if Lit thumbs worked in dAmn again...

4. What are the top 5 things you are looking for out of the new groups project? - Groups should be able to feature artwork of other artists without receiving faves on the feature; perhaps a deviation marked as a feature serves as a redirect link to the main deviation when viewed.

The club membership list should be a seperate tab on the main account page which is easily updateable by the club admin, and not something stored in a forgotten journal somewhere.

5. What can we do with groups that will be (in your opinion ) the BEST thing ever? -

6. What can we do with groups that will be (in your opinion) the WORST thing ever? - Keeping group accounts as standard user accounts.

1. I do run a group, I sort of run three of them, though none of them are currently active.

One group is to help new deviants enter dA, giving help with learning things about how to use all of the faculties available to them (i.e. how to make journals, how to use the chatroom, how to use the message centre, etc.) It also features new deviants with under 2000 pageviews.

My other two groups were made to help connect people in dA to eachother. I'm from minnesota and want to work on maybe one say setting up a devMeet in Minnesota one day. There used to be a Minnesota group but that went inactive a few years ago and I haven't been able to get in contact with the creator. The other group is a writing group focused on teaching good critique skills.

2. I like groups for different reasons, some groups I keep tabs on so I can know what's going on in the community, some offer prizes for competitions that I can compete in, and some groups, for instance *deviant-ARCADE, offer a really good selection of art.

3. I think one of the most important features for a group is the ability to feature other artists works. Though I know how that can make things messy, for a group that is devoted to featuring other artists, the group can't really exist without that ability. I know that groups right now will copy the image and display it with comments disabled, but they are able to disable favoriting, something that many clubs have complained about. Perhaps, if there were a way for a group administrator to select an artist's work and put it in a "featured" section of the club page, then when the thumb is selected, it links back to the original photo.

I also think a better connection to the chatrooms would be nice

I also think it would make things easier if a "groups" section were added to the userpage, once things have been adjusted, so that we don't have to make our own icons and put them at the footers of our journals. This could be disabled of course.

4. Well, I don't have five, but my number one would be better feature capabilities.

5. Features
