Why is it that users are not able to change usernames at their own will? I can understand for consistency and hackers taking "dead" account names, but there are others like myself who just want to change a name they created in high school to something more professional.

I think, what we should worry about when considering name changes is that--and unfortunately--there are some very reknowned artists who deactivate their accounts for their own reasons, and if the name becomes available after their deactivation it could cause a problem with art theft, claiming certain artworks and accompishment of the previous person as your own...
After all, art progress and accomplishments relate directly towards copyright laws, and it is not something one could simply "take over" once the first person gives it up.

...I think :/

i would really like to change my account name, and agree that if you change it, there should be a limit of changing it only once every 6 months or so. There should be some kind of limit.

My only thing concerning name changes is that current users are allowed to use names that are no longer active (such as "dead" accounts) because I'm sure a lot of us have been eyeing certain names but they are "taken."

A lot of deactivations were caused by abuse on artists thrown by those who don't spend much time on there art
