How did you first discover deviantART?

I never knew about the internet until I was about 7 or 8 years old, where I would just play games on there once in a while. When I was about 11, I browsed around the internet a little more often, and ended up reading fanfiction of some movies and TV shows

. I looked at some of the profiles of authors, and some linked their dA accounts. I browsed around that deviantART for a short time and dismissed it as nothing.
Shortly after turning 13, my English teacher made my class participate in the National Novel Writing Month where I typed my fingers off over 21,000 words and became an active member in the forums. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly a year can fly by. I've made it a practice over the years to sit back and reflect on the year, what went well, what didn't and where I'd like to see the new year go. A year can bring a lot of lessons and without reflection it's hard to ensure that you've taken away everything important from it. I apply this personally and to deviantART and it's that time again

We're not pressured to do this and that, we don't even have to give a Daily Deviation every day, we choose how we promote our selected galleries/chats and forums and we're not fixed to any specific rule on how much or how little we do. People & Portraits Exposed #5 Getting your Emotive on!
It's often quite difficult to define emotion in an image. However the Emotive People & Portraits Gallery is all about that. Whether or not you have captured emotion accidentally or on purpose - your work could have a place within the gallery.

Emotive puts a lot of thought and emphasis on the emotion captured in a shot which is quite obvious given the name. However it's not all about being able to see a face with extra focus on eyes, mouth and expression. Sometimes you can capture emotively without that focus.

So to create your emotive shots, your intention must be to delve into your subjects very soul and pull out the emotion through their posture, their expressions and their stance and surroundings to convey what is usually hidden away carefully.

Body Art has its own niche within the People & Portraits Gallery and this has been the case since 2010. `Exillior explains the changes more fully in this journal.

i know editing you face digitially can be hard, but it defeats the whole purpose really. cause it's hard in a way, but also too easy, too much of an 'overkill' so to speak. what happend to the old style of drawing and painting. too much technology, art will loose it's purpose, a computer will never be able to create an exact highly detailed replica of, "The Scream", "Mona Lisa" or any other famous art piece. I do believe in computer art,but i don't agree with, it should be under the category of art, computer art may only take a few days to create a standard piece of art, a painting may take a week or two, well a true dedicated artist will take their time. i believe true art must be like a fine wine, it will only be noticed and improved by time. all i'm really saying, digital art is too easy and should be in it's own category.

I do have one criticism, though.

From the official rules:

2. The Work (i) must be the exclusive original work of the entrant and made for the Contest;

According to the rules, the first place winner should not be eligible. Browsing through the 1st place winner's gallery, we see that this deviation was originally submitted 3 years ago. [link] submission date says June 2008. Seems that the entry was deleted and then resubmitted to be eligible for the contest. The exif data on the winning entry also lists June 2008. [link]

Not to be a critic of the work, it's incredible, just seems incredibly unfair that the rules don't apply.
